Customer Need: Optimize Format Changeover Operations on the Bottling Line
The customer required a system to simplify and accelerate the format changeover operations on the conveyor belts feeding the cartonizer. Previously, format changes were handled by replacing heavy iron structures, weighing up to 100 kg, using a hoist to unscrew, lift, and replace them every time a format change was needed. This process was time-consuming and did not ensure adequate safety standards.
The customer therefore requested the intervention of BBM Service’s technical department to improve the format changeover procedure on two bottling lines. The objective was to make the process faster, safer, and easier to perform.
The situation upon arrival:
Proposed Solution: Adjustable Rails
BBM significantly optimized the process by installing an adjustable structure capable of handling four different formats, both on line 1 and line 6. The format changeover now occurs with just a few simple operations, without the need to replace heavy components, but simply by adjusting a handwheel to adapt the structure to the bottle size. Additionally, two lanes were added on one line and one lane on the other, increasing the product feed capacity to the cartonizer, further optimizing productivity.
The old fixed curves, which did not allow any adjustments, were replaced with new adjustable curves. This intervention has significantly improved the safety and speed of the operations, allowing the customer to work in a more comfortable and efficient way. The entire job was completed in just three days per line, involving two production lines. The upgrade resulted in a clear improvement in both performance and safety.
