BBM has always meant#ambition. What are BBM Service’s goals for 2024?
Having sustainable growth goals is of paramount importance in addressing current challenges related to the environment and climate change. In 2024, BBM Service has set out to promote growth while minimizing the impact of its activities on the environment and pursuing the well-being of its employees.
Major milestones scheduled for 2024 include:
- Relocate the San Pellegrino Terme office to an environmentally friendly (energy class A) building that enjoys reduced primary energy consumption. To achieve this, the building will be equipped with a photovoltaic system to harness solar energy and heat pumps, thus using energy from renewable sources. It will also limit or eliminate the use of energy from fossil fuels such as natural gas. The choice was to renovate an existing building rather than construct a new one, thus reducing land consumption and promoting the reuse of existing resources;
- Both poles of the building will be equipped with electric charging stations to promote the adoption of electric vehicles, and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions;
- A 100kWp photovoltaic system is planned to be installed at the Lenna plant in addition to LED light fixtures and high-efficiency underfloor heating;
- The adoption of a 100 percent paperless approach, thanks to the digitization of processes promoted by the Manufacturing Execution System (MES), which has already into effect in 2023. The MES will make it possible to permanently cut down paper consumption in manufacturing plants;
- The pursuit of waste sorting on construction sites, with the goal of achieving a better economic and potentially environmental impact. This goal is based on the idea that the choices of materials used during construction or renovation of a bottling line significantly affect the company’s surrounding environment;
- Continue to evaluate innovative materials and techniques in the production cycle, in order to minimize the use of environmentally harmful substances and waste generation;
- Activate a system for assessing, qualifying and monitoring ESG criteria through a questionnaire in the supplier selection process; the questionnaire will consist of a number of questions investigating how the supplier manages human resources, health, safety, environment issues, and will assess the supplier’s inclusion in a “Qualified Supplier List.”
- Continue to invest in human capital through the promotion of training courses aimed at professional figures. Also, support moments of meeting outside working hours among colleagues, to stimulate the exchange of information and personal knowledge. As a continuation of the project started in 2023, employees will be given the opportunity to invest in themselves through participation in courses on digitalization. Through these evening get-togethers, employees will have the opportunity to acquire new knowledge, skills, and abilities free of charge. These events help improve employee cohesion and trust in the company;
Further initiatives concern the 41-unit car fleet: for the past few years, a maximum speed limitation has been introduced in order to curb fuel consumption (and consequently, emissions), with positive effects on employee safety and vehicle life.
In 2024, the brand new e-commerce platform, entirely dedicated to the sale of compatible spare parts, will be fully launched. The goal is to make the purchasing process by the customer faster, more streamlined and automatic. Customers will be able to independently enter their parts lists and receive an offer, or proceed directly to purchase.
In addition, we are investing in expanding the space available for spare parts storage. In 2024, we plan to install vertical automated warehouses, totaling an additional 100 cubic meters, in order to speed up and automate order processing.
Further investments concern the production area in San Pellegrino Terme. Completing the metrology room‘s assortment of high-precision devices will be the introduction of an optical machine, equipped with a high degree of automation and state-of-the-art sensors, for the fastest and even more accurate measurement of components distributed by BBM.
