A well-known Italian food company engaged in the production and marketing of seafood products contacted us for the purchase of a new SMI MP200RD shrink-wrapper. The customer distributes in Italy and abroad, with particular attention to environmental issues, quality, and innovation in production.
For years, the company has relied on BBM Service for routine maintenance and engineering operations. In January 2020, the customer expressed interest in a cluster machine to pack cardboard clusters for a plant in southern Italy.
The new cluster machine was customised to the customer’s requirements, through a format change upgrade. The machine was equipped with an operator panel with WiFi connection and Siemens CPU for data acquisition, i.e. a remote communication system that allows the engineering department of BBM Service to connect to the machine remotely for technical assistance. An essential property to prevent problems and avoid production downtime.
In May 2021, BBM arranged for the machine to be transported to the customer’s plant, where testing was completed. The machine components were correctly packed to avoid any damage and the 1200km-transport was completed within a few hours.
The winning feature of this machine is its speed, which allows up to 200 cans per minute. In addition, the flexibility due to the format changeover allows the alternate production of two different formats:
- hourly production of 24,000 cans with 160g, 1×2 format,
- hourly production of 36,000 cans with 80g, 1×3 format.
The result is a complete state-of-the-art machinery, ideal for pressure-gluing, folding and packaging pre-cut cartons.
